British Museum is one of best and oldest museums in the world with a huge collection of 8 million objects.Inaugurated in 1753 museum holds a large number of historically momentous artefacts.
This museum has been tourists' most adored place in UK attracting more than 6 million visitors annually.Entry in British museum is free to all but shortage in government has made Museum's administration to consider introducing a fee for foreign tourist groups.

Egyptian collection

Rosetta Stone

British museum a vast collection of Egyptian objects including Rosetta Stone.It was discovered in 1799 by French soldiers .The stone has inscriptions in three writing systems hieroglyphic, demotic, and Greek.It is believed that the writing on this stone is decree by council of ancient Egyptian priests.

Nebamun's wall paintings

Eleven wall paintings paintings from tomb-chapel of Nebamun are probably the most celebrated masterpieces from Ancient Egypt. Nebamun was a affluent Egyptian official whose tomb was found in the 19th century by a Greek.Nebamun's tomb walls were embellished with paintings,describing the glorified perspectives his life and activities.The paintings include Nebamun fowl hunting in the marshes, dancing girls at a banquet, and a pond in a garden.

This statue of the Pharaoh Ramesses II  was raised in the Ramesseum.This sculpture was intended to demonstrat to him as a valuable ruler, a powerful warrior and a living god.Ramesses II reigned for 66 years. Amid his rule numerous statues were sculpted to honour him.

Elgin Marbles

The Parthenon Marbles,also called Elgin Marbles are an accumulation of ancient Greek marble figures.These marble sculptures were from ruins of a temple known as a Doric temple built to honour the goddess Athena in Greece. The temple was to a great extent wrecked amid a war in 1687 in the middle of Venice and the Ottoman Empire, which was then possessing Greece.

Lion of Knidos

The Lion of Knidos is an old Greek statue that was found in 1858 close to the old port of Knidos. Not long after its disclosure, the statue was dispatched to London where it turned out to be a piece of the
British Museum's accumulation. In spite of the fact that there is some open deliberation about the age of the statue, by and large, insightful supposition dates it to the second century BC.
